You’ve relocated to South Florida and your space isn’t as big as you thought it would be. Now what? This doesn’t have to be the end of the world. There are a number of things you can do in small niche spaces to make your space functional, friendly, and make you happy too! Here are a few tips:

  • Make dining different

Consider a small, round dining table. It makes things more intimate and adds space.

  • Mount the TV

When you’re short on space, it’s best to ditch the wall unit and opt to mount your television on the wall. You’ll gain floor space and utilize space that is usually neglected.

  • Mirror It!

Add mirrors to your space to make it feel larger and add airy depth. Choose mirrors that have beautiful designs to add character.

  • Keep things a neutral color

When you have rooms that blend in calm colors, they look a lot more spacious. Using different textures adds warmth and creativity.

  • Customize your storage

Use nooks, built-ins and furniture that serves more than one purpose to utilize every ounce of space you can. Built-ins add to the room’s design and helps in using all the square footage of the area.

  • Break it up

Create different room zones to break up the monotony of a space. Using a room divider or curtain can help create defined area. This also gives you more room to display your design creativity and enjoy the entire space.

  • Wall spaces

There are so many options for mounting furniture to save space. Using a wall desk in lieu of a desk you have on the floor, or having a foldable dining table or work table creates more space in the room. Murphy beds also work well for having functional space that can be altered based on your needs.

  • Big may be less

Depending on the size of your room, you may want to have a sofa and that’s it. In a bedroom, lose all the additional furniture pieces and opt for a bed and dresser, or just a bed. By having a closet organizer instead, the room will be free of clutter. A side table and wall light sconces helps maintain the integrity of the space while creating an expensive and chic look.

  • Going up

One of the most underutilized areas are the walls. Sending your bookcases and cabinets all the way to the ceiling creates additional space and can be a design dream. Paint them a different color and you’ve found your focal wall.

It doesn’t matter what size space you have to work with, you can always create something out of nothing. Time to design!
